Burundi Mubuga, Ngozi
One More Thing:
Serious set-up. Serious coffee. With 12 fermentation tanks, three soaking tanks, over 300 drying tables and four selection tables, Muguba Washing Station processes coffee from more than 1,900 local farmers. The infrastructure is impressive. So is this Bourbon lot, bringing sultana sweetness and poached pear, it’s a delight on any method.

NGOZI, BURUNDINestled in the rolling hills of northern Burundi, Ngozi is more than just a provincial capital - it’s a living archive of resilience, conflict, and cultural fusion. As a coffee region, Ngozi sits alongside Kayanza as one of Burundi’s two premier specialty zones. Both sit in the northern highlands where altitude, volcanic soil, and cool night temperatures create ideal conditions for dense, sweet cherry.
Burundi has long been overlooked in comparison to its neighbouring East African specialty coffee producing powerhouses. However, Burundi season is one of the highlights of the annual coffee calendar. The country’s coffee is produced almost entirely by smallholder farmers, and much of this small-scale production is of exceptional quality. With its super sweet, clean and often floral coffees, Burundi, every year, is increasingly putting itself on the specialty coffee map.
Ngozi Province is where Bugestal concentrates its operations, running multiple washing stations across the area. The region’s combination of altitude (1,500–1,800+ masl), consistent rainfall, and deeply established Bourbon rootstock makes it one of the most reliable sources of quality in the country. The volcanic soils deliver mineral richness, while the cool highland climate slows cherry ripening - producing the dense, sugar-laden beans that make Burundian Bourbon so distinctive.
